Founded on the same ideals as undergraduate chapters, there are two types of organizations that offer alumni benefits from professional development to social gatherings. Both organizations are comprised of alumni who wish to continue their active fraternal experience. These groups provide ways for alumni to continue to enjoy aspects of scholarship, leadership and fellowship in a manner different from, yet reminiscent of, their undergraduate experiences. Both types of organizations are managed by the Phi Sigma Pi Foundation.
- Alumni Chapters: This organization is similar to an undergraduate chapter in terms of activity and involvement. Alumni Chapters serve alumni based on their geographical location. Alumni Chapters are required to hold at least two formal meetings at year, abide by operating policies the Chapter sets forth in their bylaws, elect a president and at least two additional officers, have representation at Grand Chapter and submit the following forms to National Headquarters: 500, 510, 520 and 530. These members also make an annual donation to the Foundation automatically enrolling each alumnus/a in the National Alumni Association at the Member level or higher.
Regional Alumni Associations: This organization is a less intensive alternative to an Alumni Chapter. Regional Alumni Associations serve alumni based on their geographical location and create a flexible structure that enables members to participate in activities that best fit their schedules. The group adopts bylaws and elects two officers each year. Members making an annual donation to the Foundation are automatically enrolled in the National Alumni Association at the Member level or higher.
We believe that our alumni organizations can be a vital resource for the entire fraternity if they focus on these areas:
- Promoting the values of scholarship, leadership and fellowship through whatever programs and activities the members value and support. One of the appealing aspects of being part of an alumni organization is that it can be just what the members want it to be and do just what the members want it to do. Service projects, social events, and other activities can be defined as desired.
- Assisting in the colonization and development of new Collegiate Chapters. The Fraternity's future is directly linked to its ability to protect its existing chapters and expand to new chapters. During and after the chapter start-up process, local alumni are wonderful resources to lend a hand with recruitment and helping to get the new chapter organized. By attending select chapter meetings and events and demonstrating support through the sharing of their knowledge our alumni members can have a significant impact on the success of our new Collegiate Chapters.
- Reach out to nearby Collegiate Chapters and lend a helping hand. As stated above, the future of our Fraternity depends on our ability to support and develop our existing chapters. Today's strong chapter can quickly become tomorrow's chapter in need. No chapter should struggle for survival. Through a partnership with the national fraternity, our alumni can help keep our Collegiate Chapters strong by attending their events, helping them when they ask, making suggestions on how to improve, and "filling in the blanks" when knowledge has been lost.
- Support and strengthen the national fraternity. Alumni are a tremendous source of knowledge and experience. Alumni organizations can provide real world practical business experience which can be leveraged to improve the overall fraternity. Fundraising and helping the national fraternity rally the organization around important causes are also great ways to assist.
Here are some suggested activities that alumni organizations and their members may wish to undertake to support Collegiate Chapters. This list is by no means complete or exclusive.
